The exhibition was dedicated to the centenary of the restoration of the State of Lithuania. Contributing to the festive events organised throughout the country, the exhibition presented historical and modern exhibits that commemorated the founders of the modern inter-war Lithuania and marked the historical events of that period.
The exhibition focused mainly on the beginning of the restoration of the State, the symbol of the national revival Dr Jonas Basanavičius, the presidents of the State of Lithuania, its army, the establishment of the Bank of Lithuania, annexation of the Klaipėda region, perpetuation of Vytautas the Great, the trans-Atlantic flight of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas in 1933, and the 1940 occupation.
In the struggles for Lithuania’s independence in 1919–1920, more than 1,400 soldiers were killed and nearly 3,000 were wounded. The soldiers were awarded the Cross of Vytis for their bravery on the battlefield. The exhibition showcased different variations of the Cross of Vytis, the awards of Colonel Aleksandras Plechavičius (1897–1942), and other unique historical valuables: an embroidered Vytis from 1927, the Garliava volunteer flag and a gift from the 3rd artillery division made from a cannon cartridge and gifted to President Antanas Smetona.
The exhibition was put together from the collections of the Money Museum and the private collections of Eugenijus Ivanauskas, Zigfridas Jankauskas and Vilius Kavaliauskas.
