Applications for awards in the field of economics – by the end of September
Researchers in the field of economics may apply for the Vladas Jurgutis Award and the Bank of Lithuania Award for Dissertation in the Field of Economics by 30 September. The Board of the Bank of Lithuania so decided, amending the regulations for granting Bank of Lithuania awards for scientific activities and extending the deadline for offering nominees for these Awards by two weeks. In the future, applications will be accepted from 15 August.
The amended regulations also lay down that the Commission for Granting Awards shall submit offers for granting awards by 15 January of next year, if adequate nominees are available. Works offered for an award are assessed by a designated commission, which includes representatives from Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology.
The Vladas Jurgutis Award pays tribute to academic, Professor Vladas Jurgutis, the first Governor of the Bank of Lithuania, and his merits to national banking. The amount of the award is €10 thousand. The Bank of Lithuania Award for Dissertation in the Field of Economics is granted to honour the authors of the best dissertations on economics or related fields, defended during the last two years up to August 1 of current year. Its amount is €5 thousand.
Coin dedicated to Scouts to be issued
The Bank of Lithuania plans to issue a silver €5 coin dedicated to Scouts in the fourth quarter of 2019. The Board of the Bank of Lithuania so decided, supplementing the plan for coin issue. This topic was selected by the public during a survey conducted by the Bank of Lithuania. The plan is that the numismatists will rejoice at six collector and two commemorative coins as well as a numismatic set of circulation euro coins next year.
In addition to the coin to Scouts, the new collector coins will be dedicated to: the Movement for the Struggle for Lithuanian Freedom (€50); Sapieha Palace (from the series ‘Lithuanian palaces and manors’) (€20)’ gender equality (€10); smelt fishing by luring (from the series ‘Lithuanian Nature’) (€10 and €1.50); Užgavėnės (from the series ‘Traditional Lithuanian festivals’) (€5 and €1.50).
Commemorative €2 coins with the Lithuanian national side will be dedicated to Samogitia (from the series ‘Ethnographic regions of Lithuania’) and sutartinės – Lithuanian polyphonic songs (inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity).
The numismatic set of circulation euro coins will each be comprised of 1 euro cent; 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 euro cent; €1 and €2 coins with the Lithuanian national side of the 2019 issue.
