In 2014 the European Museum Forum under the Council of Europe selected the Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania for the nomination TheEuropean Museum of the Year (EMYA) 2014. The best European museum was chosen in Tallinn on 14–17 May. Such an election has been organised on an annual basis since 1977.
The Best Museum awards go to the most innovative and modern museums providing highest quality services for their visitors. Museums of European countries may take part in the competition if they have been re-opened or modernised over the last two years.
